Consultant Experience

Roger Goodacre is a tourism development expert who specialises in emerging markets. He has extensive experience in planning the growth of competitive and sustainable tourist destinations around the world.

Roger is employed regularly as a technical expert by UNWTO and other international organisations, government development agencies and leading consultancy firms, as team leader, Chief Technical Adviser, or as a planning/development, marketing or cultural heritage expert. Assignments include tourism master plans, policy reviews, marketing strategies and action plans, situation assessments and development projects in East and West Africa, Eastern Europe, the Near and Middle East and South Asia.

Most recently, he has carried out reviews of the national tourism strategies of Moldova and Armenia. For UNWTO he has led multi-disciplinary teams in drafting a new Tourism Policy and new Tourism Master Plan for Uganda, and in Rwanda wrote the marketing and cultural heritage strategies in the national Tourism Master Plan. In India he headed a UNWTO team in implementing a comprehensive Tourism Development Master Plan in the State of Punjab. Other recent projects have taken him to Cyprus, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.

Bilingual in English and French, Roger has nearly 40 years’ experience in the tourism sector, beginning as a management trainee at the British Tourist Authority, where he trained in all aspects of destination marketing before postings to the Amsterdam and Paris offices.

Roger is a Fellow of the Tourism Society, and since 2012 has been Chairman of the Tourism Consultants Network, Europe's leading professional association of tourism consultants.
