Details have been announced for this year's Professional Development Award offered by Tourism Society Wales.
Purpose of Award
To provide the opportunity for an individual working within the tourism and hospitality industry in Wales to develop a project which will progress tourism in Wales. The Award will be made annually to a maximum value of £5000.
Applications from operators of individually owned tourism businesses in Wales would be particularly welcomed for 2011. Generally applications will be expected to be innovative and creative. The proposed project must contribute to the professional development of the individual applicant as well as to the corpus of knowledge for the tourism industry in Wales. Proposals can be associated with other academic or business projects but all information relating to the PDA must be made public and will remain in the public domain. The project is expected to have practical application/s for the tourism industry in Wales
Conditions of the PDA
The individual granted the PDA will be mentored throughout the project and quarterly written reports will be required. On completion of the project the applicant will be expected to present the results for the Tourism Society in Wales and submit an article for the Tourism Society Journal. A full written report will be required in a format to be agreed by the Committee. The successful applicant will be expected to become a member of the Tourism Society.
How to Apply
Proposals for the award should be made online via the Tourism Society web site. Each application should consist of an outline project proposal on one side of an A4 plus details of the individual applicant’s career and background. The outline project proposal should include intended approach and outcomes, rationale, estimated costs, timeframe and the benefits to reinforce value to the tourism industry.
Applications will be shortlisted and applicants interviewed by the PDA Committee. If shortlisted further information may be requested before the PDA Committee interview
