The Tourism Society has announced that its 2017 Tourism Symposium will be held in Edinburgh on June 5th and June 6th.
The conference will discuss global trends, challenges and opportunities facing the tourism and travel industries, with speakers covering topics ranging from connectivity, visitor numbers, technology and staffing, from UK, EU and international perspectives.
2017 will be a very exciting year for the Tourism Society as it celebrates its 40th anniversary with special events throughout the year and across the UK. The Tourism Symposium will be a key element in this celebration and will include reflections on developments in the tourism industry along with debates on how best to handle what the future holds.
Commenting on the announcement, Lord Thurso, Chairman of VisitScotland and President of the Tourism Society, said: “It’s a particular pleasure for me that the Tourism Society has chosen to hold its annual Symposium in Edinburgh as part of its 40th anniversary celebrations. I am looking forward to a very successful event.”
Tourism Society Chairman Hayley Beer-Gamage said: “The Symposium is an invaluable resource for anyone involved in tourism. After the successes of Birmingham, Canterbury and Liverpool we are delighted to be working in partnership with Edinburgh for 2017. For everyone concerned with the future of tourism, the Tourism Symposium is a must.”
John Donnelly, Chief Executive of Marketing Edinburgh, said “Edinburgh welcomes over 4m visitors each year and delegates to the Symposium will be welcomed with a unique and stunning location. Marketing Edinburgh looks forward to working closely with the team to ensure a rich, diverse and memorable programme and we’re delighted that the city will play host to such an important event in 2017”.
